CASSINI

Cassini: an imaginary journey through Saturn’s frozen water world by Kate Moore.
Her composition is a musical voyage of the Cassini space probe past the icy moons and rings of the gas giant. It fits this year’s September Me waterthemed edition like a glove.

The Dutch-Australian composer Kate Moore found inspiration for Cassini during her residency at the European Ceramic Workcentre (EKWC) in Oisterwijk, where she spent three months creating a complete set of porcelain instruments. This percussion ensemble forms the foundation of Cassini, complemented by the recorder.

I was inspired by the images taken by Cassini of Saturn’s rings, which revealed that the silky bands were made up of billions of shards of ice and fractured pieces of rock and minerals. My sculptures and instruments are inspired by these images."
