In a time when polarization is increasing and individuals are more frequently positioned against one another, Winged poses an urgent question: how do we move together without losing ourselves?
In Winged, Kalpanarts, together with HIIIT, explores the power of collectivity. Inspired by the phenomenon of murmuration — flocks of birds moving through the sky in perfect harmony — the performance examines how individuals relate to one another within a larger whole. When do you move along with the group? When do you diverge? And what happens when trust becomes the guiding principle?
A flock of birds has no leader, no fixed hierarchy. Yet breathtaking precision emerges. Direction changes in a fraction of a second. The whole responds as one body. In Winged, this natural phenomenon becomes a mirror for our society: how do we find cohesion in a world that is accelerating and fragmenting?
The dancers continuously form shifting constellations: they propel one another forward, catch each other, break free from structures, and return again. The tension between autonomy and connectedness becomes physically tangible. Trust is not an abstract concept, but a concrete act: leaping without knowing who will catch you. As always, music is a driving force. Rhythmic patterns, live energy, and layered compositions form a beating heart beneath the choreography. Indian influences resonate through contemporary soundscapes, creating a hypnotic flow in which body and sound become one.
